GATEWAY NAMED PA LEADS DISTRICT
As of March 2012, PDe has renamed the SASMD project. It is now being referred to as PA LEADS (Pennsylvania: Leading, Empowering, Advancing, and Diversifying Schools). Gateway continues to be an active participant, and it is anticipated that Gateway will continue to receive $25,000 annually over the next three years of the project for its involvement.
The Gateway School District was named a 2011 PA LEADS distirct (formerly 2011 Standard Aligned System Model District) by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)This prestigious opportunity was granted to only eight districts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Department of Education selected Gateway and the other districts based upon their demographically diverse population and recent success in improving student achievement.
"We are honored to be named a 2011 PA LEADS" said Superintendent, Dr. Joseph A. Petrella. "This opportunity speaks to the hard work that has been undertaken by the members of the entire District and its students to reach a new level of achievement and growth."
The 2011 PA LEADS designation will allow the District to participate in a three-year project under the direction of PDE and Dr. Grant Wiggins, a renowned school reform expert. At the end of the project, Gateway will have built District capacity and will share best practices with other Districts across the Commonwealth.
